Addressing healthcare’s most urgent challenge
Healthcare associated infections remain one of the most significant challenges facing modern medicine. In critical care environments in particular, ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is caused by bacterial contamination within endotracheal tubes and contributes to patient morbidity, extended hospital stays and rising healthcare costs.
With over 75,000 cases of VAP and an economic burden of US$3 billion per year in the US, preventative solutions that also addresses the rising impact of antimicrobial resistance are needed.

Introducing the Lindo Tube
The Lindo Tube is a novel endotracheal tube embedded with antimicrobial blue light technology.
The Lindo Tube is being developed to eliminate harmful bacteria within ventilator circuits, with the goal of reducing the risk of ventilator associated pneumonia in patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
Ventilator associated pneumonia is a serious and costly complication in intensive care units worldwide. By integrating antimicrobial blue light directly into the device pathway, the Lindo Tube aims to provide continuous bacterial reduction where it matters most.

What is antimicrobial blue light technology?
Antimicrobial blue light operates within the visible light spectrum, typically between 400 and 470 nanometres. Unlike ultraviolet light, antimicrobial blue light does not rely on ionising radiation. Instead, it activates naturally occurring molecules within microorganisms, leading to the production of reactive oxygen species that damage and inactivate bacteria, yeast, mould and many viruses.
This mechanism has been widely studied and shown to be effective against a broad range of pathogens, including antibiotic resistant bacteria, without promoting resistance.
For antimicrobial blue light to work effectively, it must be delivered at a precise wavelength and intensity. Advances in LED technology have made it possible to deliver targeted, high intensity blue light safely and reliably within medical and healthcare applications.
